Gurung elected NC's Chitwan district president
Tek Prasad Gurung has been elected district president of the Nepali Congress in Chitwan, defeating Bikas Koirala.
Gurung got elected securing 367 votes while Koirala ended up with 140 votes. Counting of votes after the second round of voting in the party's special district convention was done last night.
Second round of voting was conducted after none of the candidates secured the mandatory vote margin in the first round. Koirala had walked out of the voting complaining of lack of security.
Meanwhile, Jit Narayan Shrestha was elected secretary, securing 247 votes while his nearest rival, Devendra Gurung, secured 165 votes. Similarly, Surbir Pokharel was elected treasury with 247 votes.
83 candidates had contested for the member of the 28-member district committee.
The NC leadership had dissolved the Chitwan district committee owing to internal row after the murder of Tarun Dal district president Shiva Poudel few months back. nepalnews.com
