NC to boycott interaction of UCPN (M) led alliance

Nepali Congress has decided to boycott an interaction programme organised by the Federal Democratic Republican Alliance (FDRA), led by UCPN (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, on 4 September in the capital.

Nepali Congress Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held at party headquarters in Sanepa on Sunday took the decision to this effect.

The FDRA, an alliance of the ruling parties, has prepared to hold the interaction among all the political stakeholders including civil society members in a bid to find possible way outs to the existing political deadlock facing the country.

The FDRA said interaction would help bridge the widening rifts among political parties over many issues related to constitution writing and formation of the consensus government.

However, the main opposition NC's today meeting decided to boycott the interaction saying that any initiation taken by the Maoist party would be meaningless until Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai steps down, according to party spokesperson Dilendra Prasad Badu.

In the meeting, CWC members presented their views on the political report presented by general secretary Krishna Sitaula. Majority of the CWC members stressed on the need for holding fresh Constituent Assembly election instead of CA's reinstatement under NC's leadership, it is learnt.

The meeting also condemned the attack on two party-aligned student wing- Nepal Students Union leaders and also demanded action against those involved in the attack.

A group had attacked on the former NSU unit president of the Ayurved Campus, TU Kirtipur, Shankar Gautam and incumbent president Sudarshan Pokhrel on 30 August on Sunday. nepalnews.com
