Student groups up in arms against fuel price hike

Various student groups came together to stage rallies in different parts of Kathmandu to protest the recent price hike in petroleum products Wednesday morning.

The Nepali Congress-affiliated Nepal Students Union, UML-affiliated All Nepal National Free Students Union and various other student groups demonstrated at Pradarsani Marg and in front of different government colleges, demanding withdrawal of the price hike.

Vehicular movement remained affected for over an hour during the morning rush hour due to the student protests. The student unions have warned of stronger protests if the government did not roll back the hike within 24 hours.

On Sunday, the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) announced an increase of Rs 5 in a litre of petrol, Rs 4 in diesel and kerosene and Rs 55 in a cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Rs 11 in a litre of aviation fuel. nepalnews.com
