TURGAN sticks to its decision to hike tour guides’ wages

Tourist Guide Association of Nepal (TURGAN) said that its decision of hiking the remuneration of tour guides will be implemented at any cost.

Despite opposition from Nepal Association of Tour Operators (NATO) and Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA), TURGAN said so issuing a statement on Wednesday.

TURGAN, an umbrella association of tourist guides has decided to increase the remuneration of tour guides by around 25 percent effective from January 2013.

However, NATO and NATTA have strongly opposed the decision of TURGAN, terming the decision “unilateral” as it was taken without tour operators’ consultation.

Both the associations have also already directed their members not to implement the decision made by TURGAN regarding the increment of remuneration of tour guides.

As NATTA did respond to the letter of TURGAN regarding the increment of remuneration of tour guides, it has hiked daily wage of tour guides effective from January, according to TURGAN. nepalnews.com
