No official announcement has been made about the cancellation yet, but one of PM Bhattarai's aide said that the visit has been cancelled in view of the country's fragile political situation. He was scheduled to fly to New York on 22 and return on September 30.
However, other sources claimed that the PM chose not to go to New York this time because it would not be politically significant as the Indian and the Chinese prime ministers would also not attend the UNGA which is considered as an important forum for meeting world leaders.
PM Bhattarai had a one-on-one meeting with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement Summit in Tenran recently.
With the cancellation of the PM's trip, Deputy Prime Minister will now lead the Nepali delegation to New York. nepalnews.com
