Student groups call off Sunday's valley bandh
Student unions affiliated with opposition parties have withdrawn the bandh (general strike) for Sunday to protest the recent hike in petroleum products.
A meeting of the student leaders held at the CPN-Maoist's All Nepal National Independent Students Union Friday evening decided to call off the bandh as it would coincide with the B.P Koirala's birth anniversary programmes of the Nepali Congress as well as the first year exam of MA.
Instead of bandh, the student groups will picket the Nepal Oil Corporation demanding immediate rollback on the fuel price hike on Sunday. Likewise, they will burn the effigies of the Prime Minister on Monday and carry out torch processions on Tuesday as part of the protest.
As many as 17 student unions have come together to protest the fuel price hike. nepalnews.com
