National Education Day being observed
The National Education Day and International Literacy Day-2012 is being observed across the country by organising various programmes on Saturday.
The government is awarding six best community schools, six private schools and one school from remote part of the country amidst a function in the capital.
The Education Ministry has formed 105-member main organising committee under the leadership of Education Minister Dina Nath Sharma to mark the day.
September 8 was proclaimed International Literacy Day by UNESCO on November 17, 1965 aiming to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies. It was first celebrated in 1966. Nepal started to observe the Education Day and International Literacy day since 1974. nepalnews.com
