Measles, rubella vaccination in Kaski

A measles and rubella vaccination campaign will be run in all the VDCs, sub-metropolis and municipalities of Kaski district from September 23 with the financial cooperation of the Lions International and technical cooperation of the District Public Health Office, Kaski.

Some 180,000 children of the 43 VDCs and two municipalities of the district will be benefited from the vaccine for the nine month to 15 month old children, RSS reports.

Some 204 health workers and 920 volunteers will be mobilized for the programme, said District Public Health Office Chief Ramesh Prasad Adhikari.

The campaign will be run in all the 16 districts of the western development region on the same date and it will be run in the mid-western region in the second phase.

This was informed at a programme organized by the Lion's International District 325 b 1 Nepal. The Lions International has provided Rs. 222.5 million for the programme in all the five development regions of the country.

Meanwhile, in Rupandehi, vaccination campaign will be run for controlling measles and rubella for the district's 320,909 children, the District Public Health Office Rupandehi said. The campaign will be run September 17- October 15 in four phases.

According to WHO, rubella was first found in Nepal in 2004 and is like measles in symptoms.

Dr. Binod Gupta of the organization, said rubella was added with the measles vaccine given earlier. He also informed that measles-rubella is mostly transmitted in children and pregnant women. nepalnews.com
