Govt set to distribute ID cards to the poor from today
The government is all set to distribute ID cards to the poor families after identifying them in a nationwide campaign to be started from today.
The government is distributing ID cards to the poor as part of a plan to provide concessions on the price of basic commodities and some of the state facilities.
In the initial phase the government is implementing its decision - to identify the poor families and provide them with identity cards - in 25 districts of the country.
After gauging the initial response, the government will then implement it in all 75 districts of the country.
The Cabinet meeting on September 3 had passed the directives on identifying the poor families, who will be provided with identity cards.
For the purpose the government had constituted a committee under the vice-chairman of Poverty Reduction Fund to oversee the matter.
Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has already stated that through the ID cards the government aims to ensure education and health facilities and provide other state facilities. nepalnews.com
