Nutrition plan to be implemented in six districts
The government has decided to implement the Multi Sectoral Nutritional Plan (MSNP, 2013-2017) in six districts in the first phase.
The MSNP will be implemented in Jumla, Bajura, Achham, Kapilvastu, Parsa and Nawalparasi districts.
The MSNP developed by the National Planning Commission (NPC) with support from the ministries of Health and Population; Agriculture Development; Federal Affairs and Local Development; Urban Development; and Education, and the Unicef, plans to cover all the 75 districts in the five years of implementation.
The government has estimated that around 150 million US dollars will be required for the plan.
Malnutrition in Nepal is indicated primarily by stunting, wasting and anaemia. According to the Demographic Health Survey (2011), 41 percent Nepali children under five suffer from chronic malnutrition (stunting) while 11 percent are wasted. Some 46 percent aged between six and 59 months are anaemic. nepalnews.com
