Nepali worker commits suicide in Korea

A Nepali national working in South Korea under the Employment Permit System (EPS) committed suicide on Wednesday.

The deceased identified as Raj Kumar Gurung, 21, of Tanahun hanged himself to death by using a rice cooker chord at around 10:30 pm, reports said.

Gurung, who was working at the Yusan Hi-tech company in Pohan province, had called his brother in Dubai before taking his own life. However, the reason behind the suicide was not known as Gurung has not left any note.

Gurung had arrived in South Korea about six months ago. His body is currently kept at a local hospital for postmortem while the owner of the company where he worked including three of his Nepali colleagues working there have been taken into custody for questioning.

Gurung has his parents, wife, daughter and younger sister back in Tanahun. He had told his friends about the birth of his daughter only a week ago.

Two Nepalis from Pyuthan and Kaski districtds working in South Korea under EPS had committed suicide in July this year. nepalnews.com
