The 31st International Day of Peace was observed with the slogan "political stability for sustainable peace" on Friday.

The Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction organised various programmes including morning rally and interaction in the capital to mark the day.

Addressing a programme organised on the occasion, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai underscored the need of political stability for development in the country.

"Participatory democracy based on equality and absence of injustice is the precondition for sustainable peace," he said.

The International Day of Peace is observed annually on 21 September. The day was first celebrated in 1982 by the United Nations to highlight the importance of peace around the world. Nepal started to observe the day since 2008. nepalnews.com
