Maoists withdraw Syangja bandh after being outfoxed by former king

UCPN (Maoist) has withdrawn the half-day general strike (bandh) which the party had called in Syanja Sunday to spoil former king Gyanendra Shah’s religious tour in the district.

They called off the half-day strike to be imposed from 6 am to 12 noon after ex-king Shah abruptly changed the timing of his religious tour. Shah was earlier scheduled to visit Dhaneshwor Mahadev temple in Putalibazaar in the morning, but later changed it to afternoon.

It has been learnt that Shah will drive Pokhara to Syanja later on the day.
Shah, who had arrived in Baglung escorted by a motorcycle rally of supporters on Saturday, had said he is worried about country's "worsening situation" and that he was "watching it seriously. He had visited the Kalika Bhagwati temple and returned to Pokhara the same day.

The ousted monarch had embarked on a religious tour last week by visiting Gandaki and Dhaulagiri zones amid protests by the leaders of the major parties. Nepalnews.com
