Oppn parties postpone plan to announce protest programmes due to lack of preparation
The opposition parties have postponed their plan to announce protest programmes against the UCPN-Maoist led coalition government on Thursday.
A joint meeting of the opposition parties held at UML headquarters in Balkhu decided to announce the protest programmes on October 1st after holding further discussions regarding the form of protest among the parties.
The opposition parties, on Wednesday, had decided to announce protest programmes to exert pressure on Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai to step down on Thursday. However, they could not announce the details of the protest due to lack of preparation.
"There is no alternative to launch protest programmes against the government. But we could not announce today as we felt need for preparation before announcement," NC spokesperson Dilendra Prasad Badu said after the meeting.
The opposition parties have been demanding resignation of Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai saying that his removal was the precondition for further negotiation with the ruling parties. However, PM Bhattarai has been insisting that his resignation alone would not help end current political impasse of the country until the parties strike deal on package. nepalnews.com
