Govt announces cash rewards for medal winning players in Int'l, regional sporting events

The government has decided to reward each Nepali players winning gold medal in the Olympic games with Rs. 10 million. Similarly, Nepali players winning silver medals in the Olympic games will be awarded Rs. 7.5 million and Rs. 5 million will be awarded to bronze medalists.

The cabinet meeting on Thursday decided to award the player winning medals in the Olympic games in individual events.

Similarly, the cabinet has also decided to provide Rs. 4 million, Rs. 3.5 million and Rs. 2 million for gold, silver and bronze medalists respectively in group events in the Olympics.

Likewise, Asian Games winners will be awarded with Rs. 2.5 million, Rs. 1.5 million and Rs. 1 million for gold, silver and bronze respectively while South Asian Games winners will receive Rs. 500,000, Rs. 300,000 and Rs.200,000 for gold, silver and bronze medals respectively in the individual events.

The athlete who has won medals in some three or more international events will be awarded with Rs. 2.5 million in his/her retirement from sports. The government has also decided to award coaches of successful Nepali sportsmen in international games. nepalnews.com
