During his stay in the China, Dahal, who had earlier said that economic agenda would be the focus of the visit, met various high-ranking officials, including President Xi Jinping.

Former Prime Minister Dahal told China's Global Times in an interview that during his talks with Xi, he conveyed Nepal's situation to Xi, and appealed for more investment from China.

According to the times, although there have been criticism in Nepal that China has been expanding its influence over the region through investment, Dahal said that China's investments are based on the "historically close relationship between the two nations and are indispensable for the prosperity of Nepal."

The Nepali Maoist leader further held that closer ties between Nepal, India and China should strengthen cooperation. Dahal also said that he advocated equal ties with both of Nepal's neighbours, while calling upon Nepali leaders to understand the importance of "this new strategy."

Dahal told the Times that China and India could cooperate on major hydropower and road building projects in Nepal, jointly allowing economic growth to contribute to Nepal's prosperity. Nepalnews.com
