CIAA arrests five NTC engineers, one Indian national on corruption charges
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Monday arrested five engineers of Nepal Telecom (NTC) and one Indian suspecting corruption in the purchase of air conditioners worth millions of rupees.
The arrested engineers have been identified as Rajendra Maharjan, Ram Naresh Singh Kuwar, Anil Acharya, Sri Krishna Bhujel and Bhai Krishna Maharjan.
The Indian national has been identified as Pankaj Wanthiya, managing director of Akriti International Pvt. Ltd., the local agent of the Chinese supplier AIRSYS Refrigeration.
According to CIAA sources, the Chinese company had won the tender called by NTC to supply air conditioners to the largest telecom service provider of Nepal.
These six individuals bribed the Chinese company to supply low quality air conditioners and with this, they received Rs 50 million amounts together as the black money.
The CIAA filed lawsuits against all six at the Special Court Monday as per the Anti-Corruption Act, according to CIAA spokesperson Shreedhar Sapkota. Nepalnews.com
