Voter registration can't be extended for two weeks: EC
The Election Commission on Friday ruled out any possibility of extending the voter registration works for two weeks as agreed by the High Level Political Mechanism (HLPC) with the Federal Democratic Front led by Upendra Yadav on Thursday.
"We have resumed voter registration for one week only. It can't be extended for two weeks, as it will delay the November 19 polls of the second Constituent Assembly," said the Commission's spokesperson, Bir Bahadur Rai.
As the HLPC reached a six-point agreement with the poll-opposing Front convincing the latter to take part in the polls, one of the agreements, however, was to extend voter registration for two weeks.
Following requests from various quarters, the Commission on Thursday resumed the already closed voter registration works for a short period from August 17 to 23 next week.
The agreement with the Front was reached hours later in the midnight, the same day. Nepalnews.com
