Govt declares parts of Kathmandu district as 'bird flu emergency zone'
Following the declaration of Bhaktapur district as a 'bird flu emergency zone' hardly a few days ago, the government has declared the same in some parts of Kathmandu district, as well.
The parts of Kathmandu district, which were declared emergency zone, include 11 VDCs, Kirtipur municipality and some parts of Kathmandu Metro.
The 11 VDCs include: Chalnakhel, Thankot, Satungal, Purano Naikap, Ban Bhanjyang, Matatirtha, Mulpani, Gothatar, Machhegaun, Mahadevsthan and Dahachok. Similarly, Pepsicola area or ward number 35 of
Kathmandu Metro was also declared as the emergency zone.
"This decision will be implemented from Saturday onwards for three months," said Narayan Ghimire, spokesperson for the government's bird flu control campaign.
Under the provision of emergency zone, all fowls including chickens will be culled, while feed, egg and excreta will be properly destroyed and disposed. Sales, supplies and farming of fowls will also be banned. Nepalnews.com
