Vehicular movement stalled on Sindhuli section of Midhill Highway for the third day; thousand of passengers stranded
All vehicular movement on the Midhill Highway passing through Sindhuli district remained obstructed for the third day on Thursday due to a transport strike imposed by local farmers demanding appropriate compensation for the land appropriated from them while constructing the highway.
Both long and short route passengers buses including micro-buses and other forms of transport remained off the road fearing reprisal from strike organisers because of which the Midhill Highway (Madhyapahadi Rajmarga) wears an abandoned look.
Today the locals from Khurkot and Ghurmi VDC demonstrated on Khurkot section of the highway demanding proper compensation for the land they lost to the highway. They said they will continue with their struggle until the government accedes to their demand.
Apart from obstructing vehicular movement on Midhill Highway, they have also prohibited vehicles heading to BP Highway from Sindhuli and Kathmandu due to which thousands of passengers have been stranded in Khurkot. nepalnews.com
