Sadbhawana proposes two provinces in Terai-Madhesh in its election manifesto
Rajendra Mahato-led Sadbhawana Party (SP), which is a constituent of the United Democratic Madhesi Front - has proposed two provinces in Terai-Madhesh region.
In the draft of the election manifesto the party leadership presented for endorsement during the ongoing extended meeting of the party in Janakpur on Sunday, two provinces have been proposed in Madhesh region: Madhesh and Tharuhat, it is learnt.
However, the party leadership is also seriously deliberating to keep the unity of Madhesh region intact either by going with the name of ‘Single Madhesh Pradesh’ or Madhesh Tharuhat Pradesh, the latter in order to address the concerns of identity of the Tharu indigenous people that is also in majority in the region.
But the party is also open to creating two provinces in Terai-Madhesh region as per the wishes of the people, the election manifesto states.
The draft of the election manifesto further proposes 8 identity-based provinces in other regions of the country based on the recommendation made by State Restructuring Commission.
The party has also stated in its election manifesto that the right to self determination is an absolute birthright of every person born in the country and the party is ready to grant this right to every indigenous communities of the country as per the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
The party has also proposed prime-ministerial system as the appropriate form of government while stating that Nepali as well as mother languages of various communities in the country should be recognised as official language(s) at the central level and used for official purposes. The party has also proposed that all proceedings in the Supreme Court of Nepal and other courts should be carried out in these official languages and that provinces should be left free to, through its legislature, adopt any language used in its territory as its official language or languages. nepalnews.com
