Krishna Janmashtami, a festival marking the birth of Hindu god Krishna, is being celebrated by Hindus across the country on Wednesday.
On this day, people throng the temples of Lord Krishna, a playful god who, according to Hindu mythology, killed his own uncle, king Kanksa, to liberate his fellow people from age-old tyranny.
According to Hindu mythology, Krishna also acted as a mentor to the Pandavas in their victory in the famous battle of Mahabharata and stood as a beacon of the triumph of the good over evil.
Lord Krishna's love and devotion towards his beloved Radha is also equally celebrated by followers of Hinduism.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of Krishna Janmasthami, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav visited Krishna Mandir (temple) in Lalitpur Wednesday morning and offered his prayers at the temple. He also received blessings and tika from the main priest of the temple.
There is a public holiday today to mark the festival. nepalnews.com
