Nepal declares 20-member national football squad for SAFF Championship
Nepal on Wednesday declared its 20-member national football team for the 2013 South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship to be held in Kathmandu from August 31 to September 11.
Organising a press meet, the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) declared the national team led by Captain Sagar Thapa.
Kiran Chemjong, Ritesh Thapa and Bishal Shrestha have been selected as goalkeepers, while Bhola Thapa, Raju Tamang, Bikram Lama, Jagjit Shrestha, Tanka Basnet and Prakash Budhathoki have been selected as the midfielders.
Similarly, the defenders are Sagar Thapa, Biraj Maharjan, Rabin Shrestha, Sabin Shrestha, Sandip Rai and Rohit Chanda. And the forwards are Anil Gurung, Jumanu Rai, Bharat Khawas and Bimal Gharti Magar.
Midfielder Prakash Budhathoki is debuting through this SAFF Championship, while noted players Tek Bahadur Budhathoki, Nirajan Khadka, Bijay Gurung and Bijay Dhimal could not impress the selectors this time around.
Eight South Asian countries will participate in the tournament. In Group A, there are Nepal, India, Bangladesh and Pakistan, while in Group B, there are Afghanistan, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka. Nepalnews.com
