Community schools remain closed across country
A day after all private schools in Makwanpur district were closed down by teachers demanding pay hike, most of the community-run schools across the country also remained shut on Friday.
The community schools were closed down by an association of school teachers demanding permanent status to the teachers appointed on contract basis.
The Temporary Teachers’ Struggle Committee staged a sit-in demonstration in front of all the District Education Offices (DEOs) across the country asking the government to ensure job guarantee to them, according to reports. They said that the vacancy announcement made by the Teachers' Service Commission earlier this year is aimed at laying them off and that they would intensify protests if their demands to afford permanent status to them were not met.
