Ambassador Chalise wins UK’s Grassroot Diplomat Award
Nepal's ambassador to the United Kingdom Dr. Suresh Chalise has won the first ever 'Grassroot Diplomat Initiative Awards' under the category of “Social Integration of Gurkhas through Social and Economic Diplomacy” on Thursday, at Vincent Square, London.
Chalise was nominated for two categories including Social Driver Award for “Promoting Gurkha Rights in the UK”.
Receiving the award, Chalise said,“This award shall encourage me to make more concerted efforts to connect the secluded Nepali populace, who have come from a different socio-economic and cultural background, into the UK society,"
Grassroot Diplomat hosted the Grassroot Diplomat Initiative Awards to formally recognise six diplomats and politicians working closely with members of civil society in the UK. Other recipients of award in different categories were - Robert Buckland (Conservative MP), Debbie Abrahams (Labour MP), Baroness May Blood MBE, Roberto Jaguaribe (Ambassador of Brazil) and Mauricio Rodriguez Munera (Ambassador of Colombia).
Over 50 diplomats, Members of Parliament, Councillors and Members of the House of Lords were nominated for the award under Social Driver, Policy Driver and Business Driver categories. Nepalnews.com
