Trade deficit jumps by 27 pc
Nepal's trade deficit has soared by 27 percent to stand at a record Rs. 251.66 billion during the first six months of the current fiscal year 2012/13 compared to the same period last fiscal year.
According to Trade and Export Promotion Center (TEPC), Nepal imported goods worth Rs. 289.89 billion while the valued of exports was limited to Rs. 38.23 billion during the review period.
However, the country’s total trade volume registered an increase of 21.3 percent to Rs. 328.12 billion during the period compared to the same corresponding period last fiscal year.
Nepal's exports have also increased by 4.1 percent while the import rose by 24 percent during the period. Exports to India has increased by 24.42 percent while imports soared by a whopping 150 percent compared to the same period last year. Nepalnews.com
