UCPN (M) jamboree concludes endorsing 98-member cc, Bogati becomes party’s new gen secy

The seventh general convention of ruling UCPN (Maoist) party which began on February 2 concluded on Friday electing a 98-member central committee (cc).

Although the party has formally decided to form a 151-member cc under the chairmanship of UCPN (M) party chief Pushpa Kamal Dahal, it decided to make public the names of only 99 central members for now after endorsement from the closed session of the general convention.

As one among the central members, NK Prasai, was appointed to the post of central advisor, the closed session of the general convention endorsed the names of 98 central members.

The closed session also decided to retain Baburam Bhattarai and Narayan Kazi Shrestha as party vice chairmen while endorsing the name of Posta Bahadur Bogati to the post of party general secretary.

It is learnt that the party secretaries will be appointed by the central committee at a later date while Amik Serchan will head party’s Central Disciplinary Department (CDD) and Dor Prasad Upadhyay will head party’s accounts department.

However, Kali Bahadur Kham, who was suspended from the party’s central committee for his involvement in the Yarsagumba purchase scandal and his alleged involvement in the murder of the Kathmandu-based businessman, has been restored to the cc.

The week-long convention which was scheduled to conclude on Thursday was extended by a day following disagreement among senior party leaders regarding the formation of party’s central committee, chiefly its size.

On Thursday, participants of the closed-door session had unanimously endorsed Dahal's political dossier, which proposes Chief Justice Khilraj Regmi as Prime Minister. Nepalnews.com
