Bankariya family hosts PM Bhattarai
Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai stayed overnight with a Bankariya family in Hadikhola in Makwanpur district on Friday.
Bhattarai, who was in the industrial town on Hetauda, Makwanpur, to attend his party UCPN (Maoist) general convention was accompanied by a team of senior government officials.
During the trip, the Head of Government interacted with the local people on their problems and development issues apart from inspecting the government offices, an aide to the Prime Minister said. The Prime Minister said that the Bankariya are a unique ethnic group and the government was committed to promoting the group's culture and tradition.
The Bankariya, one of the endangered ethnic groups of Nepal, have been living along the banks of the Hadikhola. According to government figures, there are only 75 Bankariyas at present.
PM Bhattarai had announced few months earlier that he would spend a night at a remote village once a month to understand the day-to-day situation of rural Nepali households. Nepalnews.com
