Bird flu detected in Kathmandu village

Officials at the Directorate of Animal Health have confirmed that cases avian influenza (bird flu) have been found at a farm in Nayapati VDC, Kathmandu.

Narayan Ghimire, spokesperson for the directorate, said bird flu cases have been found at a poultry farm owned by Narayan Dahal. He said that officials are at the scene, which is close to the VDC office, and are preparing to cull all fowl at the farm.

He added that the farm owners have raised concerns over compensation for the fowl, and talks are underway to resolve the issue.

Bird flu cases were last reported in Rampur area of Kathmandu in December. Officials had stepped up vigil on poultry farms throughout the Valley following the report. Nepalnews.com
