SC issues show cause notice on appointment of ex-justice as Press Council chief
The Supreme Court has issued a show cause notice to the government in relation to its recent decision to appoint former Justice Avadesh Kumar Yadav as chief of the Press Council.
The court has given the government 15 days to submit a written explanation on why it appointed Yadav as chief of the council.
The court was responding to a petition against the government decision, which the plaintiffs said was a breach of constitutional provisions. They claim that a the government decision on January 25 to appoint former Justice at the Supreme Court Avadesh Kumar Yadav as Chairman of Nepal Press Council violates the provision of Article 106 (2) of the Interim Constitution of Nepal 2007.
