Students demand formal rollback of LPG price hike
Vehicular traffic in the capital was affected in some parts of the capital due to the chakkajam (vehicular shutdown strike) enforced by the student unions affiliated with the opposition political parties on Thursday, demanding formal withdrawal of the hike in the cooking gas price.
The student groups blocked traffic in front of the government colleges from 8:00 to 10:00 am. They have said that the protests will continue until the government rolls back the price hike.
Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai on Wednesday tweeted that the hike had been withheld because of lack of preparations.
The earlier day, the Oil Corporation (NOC) had jacked up the price of the Liquidized Petroleum Gas (LPG) by a massive Rs. 630 per cylinder. With the hike, the price of cooking gas has reached 2100 per cylinder. However, the government said that the households would be provided with subsidy. Nepalnews.com
