UML split over Maoist proposal, Central Committee meet postponed
A meeting of the UML Central Committee, which started at 9 am on Friday, has been postponed until tomorrow after leaders failed to reach a decision on UCPN (M)'s proposal to form an 'election mechanism' under Chief Justice Khilraj Regmi.
The meeting, which lasted for eight hours, could not reach a conclusion as 'second-rung' leaders of the party objected to the
proposal, party sources said. They said that the new Prime Minister should be a member of a political party.
Following the meeting, UML leaders have gone to attend a four-party meeting at the President's Office. The leaders have said they will try for one last time to convince other parties that a candidate for the top post should be chosen from within the political parties. nepalnews.com
