Police detain over 20 Occupy Baluwatar participants

Police have detained over 20 participants of the ongoing Occupy Baluwatar movement, on Saturday morning.

Police apprehending Mandira Sharma, a human rights activist and chairperson of Advocacy Forum, during a demonstration organised in front of Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar, on Saturday, demanding punishment against army officials involved in the torture and murder of Maina Sunuwar, a teenage girl from Kavre, nine years ago. As part of the movement, which started around 50 days ago in the wake of growing cases of violence against women, participants staged a sit-in in front of the Prime Minister's office.

They were demanding action against the murderers of Maina Sunuwar, who was allegedly tortured to death in Nepal Army’s Peace Operation Training centre, Panchkhal in Kavre, on February 17, 2004.

Participants of the movement were detained after they tried to enter the 'no-protest' zone, police said. Nepalnews.com
