Book on water, disaster management in region launched
A book incorporating the experiences of SAARC countries in managing disasters was launched in the Capital on Wednesday.
The book, titled “Regional Environmental Issues: Water and Disaster Management”, was unveiled by Frank Meyeke, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, at a programme in the Capital.
The book deals with the experiences of countries in the region such as Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, said Dr Nischal N. Pandey, director at the Centre for South Asian Studies.
"Although it is very difficult to accurately predict where and when a disaster may occur, it is essential that we make necessary preparations for when they do occur," added Pandey. The book will help countries in the region learn from the experiences of their regional partners, he added.
The book has been prepared by the Centre for South Asian Studies in cooperation with the Konard Adenauer Stiftung, Germany.
Ambassador Meyeke said books such as the one launched today would help pile pressure on political actors to place disaster management on the national agenda. He hoped that the book would contribute towards important and positive changes in the way disasters are manged in Nepal and in the region. nepalnews.com
