Serious security lapse in Dailekh incident, says Gachchhadar

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar Thursday admitted that there were "serious security lapses" that helped the confrontation between the cadres of the UCPN (M) and the opposition parties in Dailekh to get worse.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the United Madhesi Democratic Front (UDMF) Gachchhadar said that security arrangement for the function that was attended by the Prime Minister was lax. The chief district officer, the district police chief and an Inspector have been transferred and that they will be investigated, he informed.

According to him, an investigation team led by a Home Ministry joint secretary, which comprises a Deputy Inspector General of the police, have been sent to Dailekh to investigate the incident.

Gachchhadar also made it a point to criticise the opposition parties for trying to disrupt the UCPN (M) district convention attended by the Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

"They pelted stones at the programme," he said, "How can the try to bar a party from organising an assembly, which is its right?" Nepalnews.com
