China recalls ambassador to Nepal for second time in two years
China has recalled its Ambassador from Kathmandu, Yang Houlan, before completion of his three-year tenure.
Ambassador Houlan has been recalled to Beijing before completing his tenure following a recent decision of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, it is learnt.
Although it was immediately not clear what prompted China to make this diplomatic move, but it comes on the heels of Chinese President Hu Jintao naming his new envoy to India.
Houlan, a security expert, was appointed Beijing’s envoy to Kathmandu in June, 2011 .
China had also recalled Houlan’s predecessor Qui Guohong before completion of his tenure after he was perceived as weak in "furthering China’s interests in Nepal". Nepalnews.com
