Workshop on Satoyama Initiative on Jan 28

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation (MoFSC) are jointly organising a workshop on “Satoyama Initiative and its Promotion in Nepal” in the capital on January 28, 2013.

'Satoyama' is a Japanese term, which refers to a Japanese rural landscape, whereby local inhabitants generate their livelihoods in a sustainable manner, said JICA in a press release.

The Satoyama Initiative, a popular model in Japan for biodiversity conservation, is a useful tool to better understand and support human-influenced natural environments for the benefit of biodiversity and human well-being.

The workshop to be chaired by secretary of MoFSC Krishna Chandra Poudel will discuss on the current situation about the promotion of Satoyama initiative, Satoyama in Nepal and future prospects and similarities and differences on Satoyama in Nepal and Japan, among other things, said JICA.
