Palpa man confesses to killing wife
A man has confessed to killing his wife -- a Rampur, Palpa local, whose murder had triggered unrest in the area few days earlier.
Om Prasad Shrestha, husband of the victim Sonu Shrestha, has confessed to killing her on December 19, local police said. The alleged-murderer was made public at the district police office, Palpa on Friday amid a programme.
Police said the man has revealed that he strangulated his wife to death on the night of December 19 and then stuffed the body in a sack before disposing it at Parewaghat along the Kali Gandaki River.
“As she did not obey my commands, I killed her in a fit of rage after my attempts to convince her failed,” he said.
Shrestha, however denied that he had murdered her to claim her property, as alleged by Sonu’s kin and locals.
Sonu’s body was found on January 20. Following the discovery of her body, irate locals had vandalised and set Rampur Area Police Office on fire compelling the local administration to clamp down a curfew in Rampur. nepalnews.com
