Police detain 32 sugarcane farmers in Nawalparasi
Police have detained 32 sugarcane farmers who were staging protests outside Nawalparasi District Administration Office.
Local police said that the farmers, who have been agitated demanding that the local administration fix a fair price for their produce, were held after they did not heed police orders to clear the 'no-protest' area outside the DAO.
The farmers however have alleged that they were held to clear the way for the Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and party senior leaders who were to arrive in the area to attend UCPN (Maoist) party's local convention. Nepalnews.com
