Maoists, oppn cadres clash in Banepa ahead of UCPN (M) district convention

Cadres of the ruling UCPN (Maoist) and the opposition parties clashed in Banepa of Kavre district Tuesday afternoon.

Clash started when the opposition cadres were preparing for a demonstration against Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai who was to arrive there along with Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to inaugurate the party's Kavre district convention. Both sides pelted stones at each other, inviting police intervention to ward off further violence.

The UCPN (M) has mobilised the Young Communist League for the security of the inaugural function. There is considerable presence of security personnel in and around the programme venue in Banepa.

Meanwhile, PM Bhattarai, party chairman Dahal and other Maoist leaders arrived at Banepa amid heavy security. In the past few days, Dahal and Bhattarai had inaugurated the party's district conventions jointly. Nepalnews.com
