Unskilled drivers, over-speeding behind highway accidents: Report
Lack of skilled drivers and over-speeding are among the major reasons why accidents are on the rise along the Bhimdutta Highway, a government-formed panel has concluded.
According to official figures, 245 people have been killed in several road accidents along the Bhimdutta Highway within the past two years.
The high-level panel, which was formed to probe into a recent bus accident in Doti that left 31 people dead, has submitted its report to the government, RSS reported.
In its report, the committee said the condition of the highway, geographical terrain, growing vehicular traffic and lack of proper precautionary measures were among the major reasons contributing to rising accidents along the Bhimdutta Highway.
Similarly use of unskilled drivers, old vehicles and over-speeding by drivers are also making the highways unsafe, task force Coordinator Atmaram Pandey told RSS. Pandey expressed the hope that the government would implement the report immediately. Nepalnews.com
