‘UCPN (M) ready to quit govt if there is agreement to hold polls at the earliest’
A senior leader of ruling UCPN (Maoist) has said that his party is ready to quit the leadership of the current government if the political parties agree on the “agenda of radical transformation”.
UCPN (Maoist) secretary Posta Bahadur Bogati, who is also Minister of Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation, made this remark while speaking at
the party’s fifth district convention in Nepalgunj, Banke.
Although he didn’t explain what he meant by ‘radical transformation’ or what it constitutes, he said that any political party can take the
leadership of the new government after the Maoist party pulls out following such a radical agreement.
He said his party reached this conclusion after realizing that parties need to forge understanding for a national consensus government and go to polls at the earliest possible and given a way out to the long-standing political deadlock facing the country.
Bogati was also of the opinion that Nepali Congress, CPN (UML) and other opposition parties made an error of judgment by opting to wage protest programmes to apply pressure on Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai to quit instead of working to forge consensus among the parties, adding that such tactics won’t work.
