Security beefed up in Hetauda ahead of UCPN (M) general convention
Some eleven hundred Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel will be deployed to provide security during the seventh general convention of the ruling UCPN (Maoist) party set to convene in Hetauda on February 2.
Senior police officials involved in overseeing security arrangement during the general convention said that police personnel from central regional police office, Hetauda and Riot Control Office will provide core security to top leaders of the Maoist party including Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai (who is also Maoist party vice chairman), Deputy Prime Minister Narayan Kazi Shrestha, Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun including guests, party representatives and observers participating in the five-day general convention. Some 3,000 delegates from across the country are expected to attend the Maoist jamboree.
It is learnt that large number of police personnel from neighbouring districts will also be brought to provide security during the general convention through the ruling party is expected to proclaim its commitment to democracy and pave way to hold early election.
Reports coming in say security has also been beefed up in Hetauda Bazaar in view of the upcoming convention of the Maoist party. Police personnel have already increased patrolling of major market places and streets of Hetauda while Armed Police Force personnel have been deployed for the security of the industrial area.
Security in and around the Hetauda Clothes Industry area where the closed door session of the general convention is set to take place has also been strengthened. Nepalnews.com
