Civil society group takes to streets against plan to form CJ-led govt

A section of the civil society staged a rally in the capital Saturday, protesting the decision to form an election government headed by Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi.

The civil society group under the banner "Citizens' Campaign for Nationality, Democracy and Social Justice" organised corner meeting followed by a rally. The protesters claimed that CJ cannot be head of the executive while holding the leadership of the judiciary and that such a government would be against the norms of separation of power.

Prominent faces in the protest rally included Nepal Bar Association (NBA) office-bearers and other legal eagles, who have been opposing the idea of the CJ-led government.

They had submitted a memorandum to President Ram Baran Yadav on Friday, asking him not to support the four major parties' decision. Nepalnews.com
