FNCCI estimates bandh loss at Rs 2.5 b per day
The country has to face the loss of up to Rs. 2.5 billion a day due to the nationwide bandh (general strike), officials at the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) said a separate political group imposed another bandh on Thursday.
Speaking at an interaction in the capital on Thursday, Dinesh Shrestha, head of the Industry Committee of the FNCCI, said preliminary study of the federation found that business worth nearly Rs. 2.5 billion is lost due to shutdown programmes, affecting around 1.5 million small and large entrepreneurs.
Economist Chandra Mani Adhikari said responsible political parties should refrain from organising strikes as such protests have direct impact on the economy apart from being socially harmful.
Other entrepreneurs at the interaction also emphasised that the economic sector should be recognised as zone of peace in order to save the country from further economic crisis. Nepalnews.com |
