In what indicates a lingering intra-party dispute in the CPN-UML, senior party leader and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal Friday said the leadership of the election government should not be given to Khil Raj Regmi without his resignation as the Chief Justice.
Speaking to reporters at Bharatpur airport, Nepal argued that the opposition parties were falling for the Maoist proposal [to make government under sitting Chief Justice] without knowing their strategy to prevent them from forming a national unity government while also keeping them from carrying out protest movement.
The UML leader's reaction contradicts the party's recent decision to go for the CJ-led government. While party chairman Jhala Nath Khanal and senior leader K.P Sharma Oli are engaged in talks aimed at an agreement to form the CJ-led government at the earliest, Nepal and general secretary Ishwor Pokharel have been openly speaking against the idea of such a government.
