Call to govt through blood donation campaign for Arms Trade Treaty
The Women for Peace and Democracy (WPD) Nepal and Shaashakteekaran Foundation for Women Empowerment (SHAAF-Nepal) are jointly organising Blood Donation Programme in Kathmandu on March 15 as a campaign to call upon the government to work towards and lead the way next week at the UN-led diplomatic negotiations to agree on an Arms Trade Treaty (ATT).
The negotiation on a treaty for controlling arms trade is going to be held from March 18 to 28, 2013 in New York where representatives from the government will participate.
“There are currently no comprehensive, legally binding international rules governing the trade in conventional arms.” said WPD-Nepal in a press statement.
“Our message is simple: we want our Nepalis delegates to be a leader during these crucial negotiations.” it added.
The armed trade has been witnessed in Syria to Congo and Afghanistan to Mali recently in an illegal manner which have devastating impact on innocents, said WPD-Nepal. nepalnews.com
