Students' protest takes toll on Kathmandu commuters
Commuters in the Capital were affected due to a four-hour-long public transport strike called by agitating student unions who are demanding that the government revoke its decision to hike public transport fares.
According to police, students demonstrated outside public colleges in Thamel, Sorhakhutte, Putalisada, Mitra Park, Chabahil, Surya Binayak, Sano Thimi, MIn Bhawan and Patan.
The government had recently announced a 9 percent hike in public transport fares, which has come into effect from last week.
Similarly long-distance buses coming in and going out of the Valley were also affected. The strike remained in effect until 10 am, student unions said. nepalnews.com
