CJ Regmi sworn in as head of Interim Election Council, two ministers named

Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi was sworn in as the head of the Interim Election Council (election government) at a special function organised at the President's Office in Shital Niwas.

While President Ram Baran Yadav administered the oath of office to Regmi, the new head of government administered the same to ministers Madhav Ghimire and Hari Prasad Neupane.

Vice President Paramananda Jha, ambassadors of foreign missions, among other dignitaries, were present during the oath-taking ceremony.

Regmi has been assigned various portfolios, including finance and defence. Ghimire, a former chief secretary, has been appointed Minister for Home Affairs as well as Foreign Minister.

Neupane, a former bureaucrat at the law ministry, will take charge at the law ministry as well as Ministry of Labour.

As per the 11-point agreement among leaders of four major political forces last night, Regmi will form an 11-member Cabinet in the days to come.

Meanwhile, Regmi has assumed office as chairman of the Interim Election Council in Singha Durbar.

"I thank political parties for entrusting me with this responsibility. The main objective of the government shall be to conduct free and fair Constituent Assembly elections at the earliest," Regmi said after assuming office. nepalnews.com
