US, China welcome agreement to form new government
The United States and China have welcomed recent developments in Nepal leading to the formation of a new transitional government.
While the US has congratulated the people of Nepal on reaching an agreement for the formation of a new interim council, the northern neighbour has said that it expects Nepal's political parties to seek a political consensus through dialogue, conclude the constitutional process and attain political stability and economic development
"This has been a complex and challenging process, and we commend the parties for their willingness to make the compromises necessary to achieve this important political milestone," said the US Embassy in a statement.
The formation of the Interim Council of Ministers for Elections lays a foundation for vital further action, including completing and adopting Nepal’s new constitution and holding free, fair, and inclusive national elections in June that reflect the will of the Nepali people, it added.
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said her government welcomes a consensus made by Nepal's political parties regarding the formation of their government.
"China welcomes the consensus made on the constitutional process and the establishment of the Interim Election Council," Xinhua news agency quoted spokeswoman Hua Chunying as saying at a daily press briefing. nepalnews.com
